The Key of Phoenix

Debut in 1993

The movie for Flower Magician/Witch Mary Bell is called The Key of Phoenix and concerns Mary Bell and her friends helping a phoenix named Toto who's come to the end of his 500 years. Toto's been on Earth since the beginning of time and helps keep the planet and its life in motion. To do so, he has the help of the inhabitants every 500 years when it's time for him to be reborn from his flames. When humans appeared on the planet, Toto put them as leader because of their hearts, and with his birthday almost at its end he needs to find the human with the key. Unfortunately, Jeet's (the fairy hunter, and a fellow who looks like the character Where's Waldo) key reacts to Toto first, causing the minus key to turn the phoenix evil and spread a dark night gas over the Earth. Mary Bell and her friends pursue him in hopes of reversing the effect so sunlight and goodness will last for the next 500 years instead.

This is a very adorable and sweet, sugary show for small children. Mary Bell is a magician or witch who comes from the Flower Magic Land (the fairy land). She looks very little (5 or 6) but is really hundreds of years old. Mary Bell and her assortment of magical things (her house and magical items) all have a nostalgic feel of girls' shows from the early 90s and 80s: Strawberry Shortcake, Rose Petal Place, My Little Pony, Charmkins, Persia, etc. She says Mary Bell Tambourine to call her magical item, tambourine. Mary Bell's Flower Magic and Maririn Berurun Rinrinrin are the spells of her wand (Marybell stick). The end of her wand is a flower bud and it opens to reveal a red jewel in the flower's center (maybe a ruby) that glows and produces petals that shoot forth in a whirl of magic. Two more items seen in the movie are her Mary Bell Cleaner (a small vacuum) and magic perfume bottle (in the movie she uses it to make Ken, Yuuri, and Ribbon fly). Her companion is a fairy, possibly eggplant (several characters mistake him as such) named Tambourine.
