Magical Fairy Persia stars 11 year old Persia, a very energetic, out-going, and innocent, carefree child. In fact, Persia would probably win for magical girl with most constant seeming-ultra-sugar high. At the series' start Persia is living in Africa, enjoying life running free on the plains with the wild animals (perticularly a lion named Simba) and wearing a leopard skin. This upbringing seems to have done her good as she can temporarily keep up with a car at top speed and has boundless, healthy enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy. But sadly, she must finally board a plane for Japan and leave this life behind her. On the way, in what appears to first be an accident in flight, Persia herself is drawn into Lovely Dream (literally the land where dreams themselves are born and grow). Though a human, it is perhaps the innocence, love, or warmth in her heart that seems to react with the spheres of dreams. She can hear them wanting to come out and when she touches them they do, but soon being unable to go anywhere, they crystalize into an icy snowflake. But the kappa who are the guardians there explain that it froze because the dream couldn't get out, but with love it could be reborn. In fact, all of Lovely Dream is this way, a wintery place. A female spirit (she who controls Lovely Dream; perhpas a type of fairy queen) appears as a silhouette of a butterfly and tells Persia it used to be warm there and dreams grew faster. She asks her help to collect love energy to bring Spring back to Lovely Dream. Persia of course agrees.

She's given a golden headband with a star that reacts with the word "Papurico". With it Persia can conjure the Magic Baton which bridges her world and Lovely Dream. To transform into an older self, she says "Love, Love, Lovely Twinkle."

This is one of many stories dealing with the awkward age of being on the cusp of adolescence. But in Persia's case she is still very much a playful and naive little girl. She sees the world through loving, curious, and forever wide-eyed wonderment, which makes it all the more interesting to see her older side emerge and Persia more importantly trying to find that side, though clearly wanting to know herself. But too she learns valuable life lessons, like responsibility. When she first gets excited about using her magic to bring Simba back to Japan and then transform him into a cat from a lion, she gets scolded by the kappa who've been placed over her as observers. They tell her all the trouble has been caused because she used her magic too much (ie she was irresponsible with it) and that if she does it again it could kill Simba next time. A very harsh, but very mature lesson she needs if she's going to wield something that comes with a great responsibility. Too the show explores the nature of dreams. Persia literally visits the land where dreams are born, and is given the magic of dreams themselves which in turn are fueled back to nurture more dreams (and not just her own but others as well). A nice metaphoric symbol for the literal nature of sharing and the pursuit of dreams among human beings. But also, on a basic level, the magic Persia is given allows her to explore her dreams through her older ego (the adult Persia as she calls her).
