Uta-Kata
TV Series: 2004 (12 Episodes)1 OVA in 2005
One night Ichika dreams of a mysterious girl floating above the waves of the ocean, bathed in the moonlight. The next day she goes to school and while cleaning out a storeroom with her friends sees the girl instead of herself reflected in the old mirror. That girl is Manatsu, Ichika's mirror image and a piece of her heart. Manatsu returns to Ichika a talisman, two magatama stones (black and white), that had been given to her by Sei (one of her tutors). When she returns it the beads on the stones have changed color, one color for each djinn of nature. To return the stones to the color they once were, Manatsu tells her she must use the power of each djinn (twelve in all).
This series is a bit like Pretear with its use of a different power/spirit in each episode and a different costume to correspond to this. In fact, one of the nice elements of the show is that each costume is designed by a different guest mangaka, and in the end credits you get to see the original concept sketch drawn by the mangaka for that week.
It is also a series high in feminine and psyche imagery, some of which can be found under this site's Symbols page and under Fairy Tales under my main site.
Magical Companion
Manatsu-she is Ichika's reflection from the mirror and part of Ichika's own heart
Magical Items
Magatama Stones-they possess twelve stones each representing a separate djinn of the natural world, with each Ichika has the power to see through the eyes of that djinn or to use the power of that djinn temporarily, just as with most magic, the power is two-sided, representing both a sin or virtue depending on how it is used
Mirror-Manatsu appears from inside an old mirror, her true form is a shard of the mirror
